India Risks Becoming a ‘Digital Colony’ Without Its Own AI Foundations, Warns Sarvam’s Vivek Raghavan

Sarvam co-founder Dr Vivek Raghavan has urged India to build its own AI models and compute while keeping control of its data, warning that dependence on foreign AI foundations could reduce the country to a ‘digital colony’. Speaking to students in Gwalior, he called for AI built “by Indians, for India, and then for the world”.
