Johnson Controls, a global pioneer in creating intelligent, healthy, and eco-friendly buildings, is reinforcing its commitment to India’s journey towards sustainability and net-zero goals. The company is enhancing its footprint in India through a series of strategic steps, including a significant initiative to achieve Net Zero Buildings in collaboration with Mahindra Group. Moreover, Johnson Controls announced the enlargement of its manufacturing facility in Pune, marking its third in the nation. This expansion aims to better meet the growing needs of its customers by boosting local production capabilities, especially in the domain of air-cooled and water-cooled chillers essential for data centers, thereby fostering India’s burgeoning digital infrastructure.

George Oliver, Chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s ongoing and future endeavors in India, attributing the expansion to India’s robust economy, skilled workforce, and booming manufacturing sector. During their recent visit to India, Oliver, along with Anu Rathninde, President of Asia Pacific at Johnson Controls, engaged with top leaders from both the public and private sectors. Their discussions revolved around accelerating India’s net-zero emission goals and included meetings with notable Indian ministers.


The Pune facility’s expansion, set to increase its floor space by 50%, underscores Johnson Controls’ dedication to sustainability. The move not only aims to enhance production capacity but also to emphasize local sourcing and the development of indigenous parts and products. Rathninde highlighted that this expansion is a physical enlargement and a leap towards environmentally conscious manufacturing practices.

Since setting foot in India in 1995, Johnson Controls has significantly grown its workforce to over 8,500 employees, showcasing its investment in local talent and economy. The company operates three manufacturing sites and five R&D and Engineering Centers in India, including three OpenBlue Innovation Centers, serving various sectors. Through its advanced building technologies and solutions, Johnson Controls has been instrumental in helping Indian customers reduce energy costs and carbon emissions, contributing significantly to the country’s green future aspirations.

Looking ahead, Johnson Controls remains committed to playing a pivotal role in India’s digital and sustainable transformation, aiming to contribute to a developed India by 2047 through innovation, collaboration, and a focus on ‘made in India’ solutions.
