Google DeepMind Unveils AI Cursor That Understands What Users Point At By cioNetworks - 14 May 2026

Google DeepMind

Google DeepMind has introduced an experimental AI-powered cursor that can understand what users are pointing at on their screens and respond to simple voice commands, potentially transforming how people interact with computers.

The prototype, described as an “AI-enabled pointer,” is powered by Gemini and is designed to interpret both the visual and semantic context of on-screen content. Users can point at text, images, videos, or datasets and issue short instructions such as “summarize this,” “create a pie chart,” or “double these ingredients.”

In demonstrations, the cursor generated charts from data tables, summarized PDF documents into email-ready bullet points, and identified locations from paused travel videos. The goal is to reduce the need for users to switch between applications and type lengthy prompts into separate AI tools.

Google DeepMind said the technology is aimed at making AI assistance more intuitive and seamlessly integrated into everyday workflows. The capability is expected to be incorporated into Gemini experiences, including in Google Chrome.
