German semiconductor powerhouse Infineon Technologies has unveiled plans to set up a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in GIFT City, Gujarat, marking a major milestone in the state’s growing technology landscape. The upcoming centre, set to employ 400 engineers, will be the first of its kind in Gujarat and reinforces the region’s ambitions to become a hub for global innovation.

The move follows the Gujarat government’s recent GCC policy, designed to attract international firms and bolster the state’s position in the global semiconductor and IT ecosystem. This will be Infineon’s second GCC in India, complementing its operations in Bengaluru, Noida, Pune, and Vadodara.

According to Vinay Shenoy, MD, Infineon Technologies India, the new facility will drive advancements in semiconductor chip design, product software, IT solutions, supply chain management, and systems engineering. It will play a pivotal role in the company’s global R&D and digital transformation initiatives, focusing on next-gen semiconductor technologies for mobility, energy efficiency, and security.

The choice of Ahmedabad as the location stems from its emergence as a technology and semiconductor hotspot, attracting increasing manufacturing investments and strengthening its role in India’s design-to-manufacturing ecosystem.

Infineon views India as a key market in its long-term strategy and has set an ambitious target of €1 billion in annual revenue from its Indian operations by 2030.

Meanwhile, Gujarat’s broader vision includes attracting 250 new GCCs, generating over 50,000 jobs, and securing ₹10,000 crore in investments through targeted incentives and policy support.

With Infineon’s entry into GIFT City, Gujarat’s semiconductor and technology landscape is set for a significant boost, reinforcing India’s growing stature in the global semiconductor industry.
