OpenAI has introduced a limited preview of its new GPT-5.6 model family, comprising GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-5.6 Terra, and GPT-5.6 Luna. Sol is the company’s most advanced frontier model, Terra is designed for efficient everyday work, and Luna is optimized for high-volume, cost-effective workloads.

According to OpenAI, the GPT-5.6 series delivers significant improvements in software engineering, scientific research, cybersecurity, and professional knowledge work. GPT-5.6 Sol introduces enhanced reasoning capabilities, including new “max” and “ultra” modes for handling complex, long-horizon tasks.

The models are currently available to a limited group of trusted partners, with broader access expected in the coming weeks. OpenAI said the phased rollout is accompanied by its strongest safety and security measures to date.
