OpenAI announced that users will be able to use its ChatGPT generative AI chatbot without registering for the service. ChatGPT is renowned for its ability to emulate human-like conversation and execute various tasks, ranging from summarizing extensive texts to crafting poetry and brainstorming theme party concepts. Based in San Francisco, OpenAI aims to broaden AI’s reach, offering this feature incrementally to satisfy the curiosity of those interested in its potential.
Despite its rapid user growth, marking a record as the quickest to amass a large user base, the service witnessed a plateau expansion with a peak of 1.8 billion web visits in May 2023, as per Similarweb. To ensure a safe experience for users availing of ChatGPT without registration, OpenAI has heightened its content safety measures by broadening the scope of restricted prompts and outputs, although the specific categories remain undisclosed.

OpenAI continues to provide various tiers of ChatGPT services, including a free version that operates without internet connectivity, alongside premium offerings tailored for individual, team, and enterprise needs. The company also mentioned the possibility of utilizing user-provided content to refine its language models, with an option for users to opt out.

This development follows a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, by Elon Musk approximately a month prior, critiquing the deviation from the company’s foundational goal of developing AI technology for the global good rather than profit-making.
