Together with a core AI model based on anonymised customer data, the SAP Build Code suite includes new and existing developer tools to help automate activities.

New development tools, database features, AI services, and improvements to SAP’s Business Technology Platform, or BTP, are among the new capabilities the company has introduced to help integrate AI into business applications across its software platform.

The unofficial capital of India’s software development sector, Bangalore, hosted SAP TechEd, the company’s annual conference for developers and enterprise architects, where the announcement was made. Build, a package of tools for citizen developers that unifies all of SAP’s low-code applications, was launched at last year’s TechEd. This year, SAP Build Code—a unified package of both new and old tools—is being given to professional developers.

A recurring theme in many of SAP’s announcements is making business-friendly generative AI technology accessible to enterprises.

In a conference call held in advance of TechEd, Walter Sun, SAP’s new Global Head of AI, stated, “We want to accelerate and get generative AI technologies to customers.”

SAP does not wish to create those tools from the ground up: “We want to take advantage of what’s already available,” Sun stated, pointing out that there are numerous large language models (LLMs) on which it can swiftly provide those models to business customers by adding its prompting, fine-tuning, and data embedding.

Simultaneously, he stated, SAP is investing in developing a “large business model” that the company is uniquely positioned to develop. This model is similar to an LLM but trained on business transactions. With permission, SAP is utilising anonymised data from thousands of businesses that use its software to train its model.
“Other companies lack the business data necessary to construct such a model,” he continued. It takes a lot of training data to run these big models. At SAP, we’re investing a lot of money in it.

Along with additional tools, users of the new SAP Build Code will have access to those initiatives.
