The Global Capability Centre (GCC) story in India has long been about scale: thousands of seats, broad mandates and multi-year build-outs. HCLTech is now betting that the next phase of enterprise AI will be won by something much smaller. The Noida-headquartered technology major on 28 October announced an AI-powered “nano” GCC offering built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), designed to help enterprises move artificial intelligence from experimentation to measurable business outcomes.
Small squads, AI-native from day one
The nano GCC sits within HCLTech’s GCC 360 solution suite and brings together the company’s GCC advisory practice and its AI platforms, including AI Force. Instead of starting with a large footprint, the model is organised around compact, product-centric squads, AI-enabled workflows and a land-and-expand approach, so organisations can begin with a focused scope, prove value and grow the centre step by step.
The offering covers four areas: AI-native engineering, autonomous IT operations, advanced data and analytics, and intelligent business operations. HCLTech says responsible AI governance is built into the model rather than added later.
Two kinds of customers
HCLTech is targeting two types of enterprises:
- Established GCCs that already operate in-country but largely run conventional work, and want a non-disruptive way to drive AI-led transformation. For them, HCLTech proposes a hub-and-spoke structure anchored from its Lucknow campus.
- Mid-market enterprises with no in-country presence that are wary of committing to a new geography and want a lower-risk platform to accelerate their AI journey.
In both cases, the pitch is shorter setup cycles and an AI-native operating model from the outset.
What AWS brings
HCLTech will lead operating model design and implementation. AWS will provide joint go-to-market support along with access to its agentic AI and developer services, including Amazon Bedrock, Kiro and AWS Transform, to speed up delivery.
“By combining HCLTech’s GCC expertise and AI capabilities with the scalability, security and agentic AI services of AWS, the nano GCC offering gives enterprises a faster, lower-risk path to building AI-native operations,” said Prabhakar Appana, Senior Vice President and Global Head of the AWS Ecosystem Business Unit at HCLTech.
Amit Anshu, Head of GSI and IT Business at AWS India and South Asia, said enterprises across Asia Pacific want to build AI-native operations with speed and confidence, and that AWS’s cloud infrastructure, agentic AI services and DevOps capabilities would help organisations move from pilot to production.
APAC first, delivered from India
Asia Pacific is the first phase of the rollout. Delivery will run through HCLTech’s India-based delivery organisation, supported by its Centre of Excellence in Lucknow, giving clients access to India’s technology and engineering talent pool.
Why it matters
Enterprises across the region have spent the past two years running AI pilots, but many have struggled to turn them into production systems. By shrinking the GCC into a modular, AI-first unit, HCLTech is trying to lower the entry barrier for companies that cannot justify a full-scale centre, while giving existing GCCs a path to modernise without disrupting their current operations. It also underlines how India’s IT services majors are repackaging their delivery models around agentic AI as clients look for outcomes rather than headcount.
