upGrad announced the appointment of Venkatesh Tarakkad, formerly of DealShare, as its inaugural Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The appointment comes as part of upGrad’s strategic planning for a public listing within the next two years.

In his previous role at DealShare, Venkatesh Tarakkad was at the helm of finance, inventory, and strategic projects, bringing a wealth of experience to upGrad. His new responsibilities will include steering upGrad’s financial strategies both in India and internationally.

Mayank Kumar, Co-Founder and Managing Director of upGrad, praised Venkateshs extensive leadership experience, highlighting the appointment as a crucial step in upGrad’s ambition to become a global leader. Kumar underscored Venkatesh’s role in bolstering upGrad’s business foundations, scaling its offerings, and driving operational excellence to achieve a strong credit standing, comprehensive compliance, and transparent governance within the upGrad ecosystem.

Venkatesh will be stationed at upGrad’s Mumbai headquarters and his tenure commenced on March 1. His role at upGrad will extend across various domains, including investor relations, business and corporate finance, financial planning and analysis, risk management, tax, and treasury functions.

Rohit Agarwal, currently leading finance operations at upGrad, will continue to play a pivotal role within the organisation. His scope will expand internationally, overseeing operations across all regions outside of India.

With a distinguished career that began in the early 1990s with Ernst & Young, Venkatesh has occupied numerous leadership roles at prominent organisations such as Ecom Express, TCNS Clothing, Siam Makro Thailand, Metro Cash & Carry, and Coca-Cola India.
