Tata Communications launches Vayu Cloud By Elets News Network - 25 March 2025

Vayu Cloud

Tata Communications has introduced Vayu Cloud, a unified AI-cloud platform integrating compute, storage, security, and seamless connectivity. With this new offering, the company aims to simplify cloud adoption while addressing cost and security challenges for enterprises.

Derived from the Hindi word for “wind” or “air,” Vayu Cloud consolidates Tata Communications’ existing cloud solutions under one modular framework. The company asserts that businesses can cut cloud expenses by 15-25%, thanks to its cost-efficient architecture and the elimination of data egress charges, a key differentiator from competitors like Google Cloud, AWS, and Microsoft Azure.

Tata Communications is strategically focusing on 1,000 large enterprises, AI-driven startups, and academic institutions that require scalable infrastructure for AI model development and industry-specific applications. “We recognise academia’s need for cloud resources to build foundational AI models, and we are committed to supporting them,” stated Bhaskar Gorti, EVP, of Cloud & Cybersecurity Services, Tata Communications.

While major cloud providers function as “walled gardens,” Vayu Cloud sets itself apart by offering cross-platform interoperability across on-premise, public, private, edge, and multi-tenant environments. This flexibility enables businesses to shift workloads seamlessly between different cloud setups.

In addition, Vayu Cloud’s competitive pricing strategy ensures lower operational costs without compromising performance. Unlike large cloud providers, Tata Communications does not charge for data transfers between different cloud environments, reducing financial unpredictability for businesses.

Recognising the growing demand for AI-powered applications, Vayu Cloud offers on-demand access to NVIDIA GPUs through a strategic partnership. This enables businesses to scale AI workloads efficiently. Additionally, industry-specific cloud solutions have been introduced for key sectors like government, finance, and retail.

India remains the largest market for Tata Communications’ cloud services, but the company is expanding its global footprint, with data centres already operational in the UK, the US, and Singapore. According to AS Lakshminarayanan, MD & CEO, Tata Communications plans to scale its cloud presence globally.

The cloud and security division has witnessed 12.5% YoY growth and 4.1% QoQ growth, as per the latest financial reports. The company has consistently invested $50 million annually into cloud innovations, part of its broader $200-$300 million yearly capital expenditure.

As enterprises move towards AI-powered ecosystems, access to NVIDIA GPUs is becoming a must-have for cloud providers. Industry experts believe Vayu Cloud’s pricing and flexibility could make it particularly attractive to mid-sized and emerging enterprises.

With its cost advantages, interoperability, and AI-ready infrastructure, Tata Communications is positioning Vayu Cloud as a formidable challenger in India’s fast-growing cloud market, which is projected to reach $24.2 billion by 2028, growing at a 23.8% CAGR.
