World Trade Centre

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed to establish the “World Trade Centre (WTC) Thiruvananthapuram.” This project will be set up on non-SEZ land in Technopark Phase-I. The agreement was signed by Sanjeev Nair, CEO of Technopark, and Hrishikesh Nair, COO of Brigade Enterprises Ltd.

Jaishankar, Executive Chairman of Brigade Group, handed over the document to Kerala’s Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan. Officials present at the event included Sarada Muraleedharan, chief secretary, and Rathan U Kelkar, Electronics and IT secretary.

Expansion of Office Spaces at Technopark

The development of WTC Thiruvananthapuram is expected to increase the office spaces available at Technopark. Sanjeev Nair mentioned that the addition of new spaces would help bring more IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS) companies and investments to Thiruvananthapuram. He stated this would strengthen the city’s position as a destination for IT businesses.

Jaishankar discussed the success of WTC Kochi as an example and shared plans for the new WTC to include over one million square feet of office space. The project will also include a hotel for business purposes. According to him, this project will be an important addition to the business infrastructure of the city.

Brigade Enterprises Ltd is already working on a building named Brigade Square in Technopark Phase-I. The proposed WTC will include Grade A office spaces and a hotel designed for meetings, events, and conferences.

Significance of the Development

Setting up WTC Thiruvananthapuram is a key step for Kerala’s IT sector. The project will provide infrastructure that can support more companies and events. Technopark, already a well-known IT hub, will gain more capacity to attract firms from India and other countries.

Including a hotel in the development addresses the demand for spaces where businesses can work and host meetings or events. This project aligns with the trend of creating spaces that combine offices and services in one location.

WTC Kochi, the first such project in Kerala, has shown how developments like these can support local business ecosystems. The facilities have attracted companies and helped the city grow as a business destination. This experience provides useful insights for the Thiruvananthapuram project.

The new WTC will complement Technopark’s existing facilities. It will signal that the city is ready to host more businesses and investments. Its location and role as a technology hub make it suitable for this development.
