An innovative artificial intelligence chatbot has been released by Meta for internal employee usage. This chatbot named Metamate, is trained on the company’s internal data and is currently being rolled out to a small group.
Metamate will assist employees in writing code, summarising meetings, and debugging features. Users will be able to create and share prompts with colleagues. According to reports, Meta was in talks with Microsoft and OpenAI about developing a tool similar to Metamate but ultimately decided to develop it in-house.
Meta already has a generative AI-based coding assistant called CodeCompose, which is similar to Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot in terms of increasing developer productivity throughout the software development lifecycle.
In an internal meeting last week, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that generative AI will be integrated into the company’s offerings and internal workflow.
A text prompt-based editing feature for Instagram stories, AI avatars for Messenger and WhatsApp, and a generative AI-focused internal hackathon scheduled for July were among the announcements. In addition, Zuckerberg stated that the company would publish more AI research and share it with the open-source community.
In a Facebook post in February, Zuckerberg stated that the company is creating a ‘top-level’ product group focused on generative AI. “We’re starting by bringing together many of the teams across the company working on generative AI into one group focused on building delightful experiences around this technology into all of our different products,” he said.
On the hardware front, Meta recently announced the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA), an in-house custom accelerator chip for training and running artificial intelligence models. An application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) combines multiple circuits on a single board to perform multiple tasks in parallel.
