India Engages US and Anthropic Over Mythos AI Access Amid Rising Cybersecurity Concerns By cioNetworks - 29 April 2026

India has intensified discussions with the United States and Anthropic after being excluded from the initial access list for Mythos, an advanced AI model that has triggered fresh concerns around cybersecurity and critical infrastructure risks.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed that the matter is being addressed at the highest levels, stating that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is actively engaging with the US administration, Anthropic, and organisations already testing the model.

She noted that the cyber challenge posed by Mythos could be significant, highlighting the urgency of India’s response.

Access to Mythos has reportedly been granted to around 40 companies under Project Glasswing, with most of the early participants based in the United States. No Indian company is believed to be part of the first cohort, prompting concerns over strategic access and preparedness.

According to reports, Indian officials are currently working on both operational mechanisms and logistical arrangements as part of bilateral discussions. Key concerns centre on safeguarding vital national systems such as banking networks, telecom infrastructure, and power grids from a model capable of rapidly identifying and exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities.

Authorities including CERT-In, the NCIIPC, and stakeholders from the financial sector have reportedly been asked to accelerate readiness measures and strengthen cyber defence capabilities.

Additional concerns have emerged following reports that unauthorised users may have briefly accessed Mythos through private online forums, raising questions around containment and misuse prevention.

The development underscores the growing geopolitical and strategic importance of frontier AI models, particularly those with cybersecurity capabilities, as nations seek to balance innovation access with national security preparedness.
