General Motors has appointed Barak Turovsky as its first-ever Chief AI Officer, signalling a major step in integrating artificial intelligence across its operations. Barak, a Silicon Valley veteran with extensive experience in AI and technology, will report to David Richardson, Senior Vice President of Software and Services Engineering.

With a career spanning major tech firms such as IBM, SAP Labs, PayPal, Microsoft, and Google, Turovsky most recently served as Vice President of AI at Cisco Systems before joining GM. Announcing his new role on LinkedIn, he expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the company’s AI-driven transformation, calling it an “incredible time” to be part of GM’s innovation in automotive technology. Reflecting on a personal visit to the Smithsonian, he shared his admiration for Chevrolet and Cadillac’s historical contributions, further reinforcing his excitement about shaping the next chapter of an iconic brand.


David Richardson, in a LinkedIn post welcoming Turovsky, emphasized the growing importance of AI at GM, stating that AI is central to the company’s vision, powering everything from advancements in autonomous driving to optimizing manufacturing and dealer processes. One of the key areas AI is expected to impact is GM’s push toward self-driving technology, likely through the expansion of its Super Cruise hands-free driving system, which now covers over 700,000 miles of North American highways. AI is also expected to enhance operational efficiencies across manufacturing and customer engagement, although the specifics of the newly created role will take shape as Turovsky settles in.
