The GSMA Board of Directors has named Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman & MD of Bharti Airtel, as its new Chairman, a role he will hold until the end of 2026. Vittal becomes only the second Indian to lead the global telecom body, following in the footsteps of Sunil Bharti Mittal, founder of Bharti Airtel.
As Chairman of GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association), Vittal will guide the organization’s strategic initiatives. The GSMA represents a diverse network of over 1,000 companies in the mobile ecosystem, including device manufacturers, software developers, telecom infrastructure providers, internet firms, and enterprises in adjacent industries. The association plays a crucial role in shaping global telecom policies and fostering industry collaboration.

Vittal’s Vision for GSMA
Expressing his gratitude, Vittal stated:

“I am honored to be elected as the Chair of the GSMA Board. The mobile industry contributed $6.5 trillion to the global economy in 2024, serving as the backbone of global innovation. GSMA unites the mobile ecosystem to drive meaningful change, and I look forward to collaborating with the Board and GSMA leadership to advance this mission.”
