Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board is rolling out one of Asia’s largest AI-powered command centres to tackle significant water losses in the city, where nearly 28% of supply is lost annually due to leakage and theft.
The Integrated Intelligent Water and Sewerage Management Centre, based on SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) technology, will be inaugurated at Shimsha Bhavan in Jayanagar by D K Shivakumar. The project has been developed with financial support from Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The platform will enable real-time monitoring of Bengaluru’s water supply and sewerage systems, including the 775 MLD supply under Cauvery Stage 5, which serves nearly 110 villages. It leverages AI to forecast demand, instantly detect pipeline leakages, and monitor key water quality parameters such as chlorine, pH, TDS, and turbidity.

Additionally, all sewage treatment plants have been integrated into the system, with automated compliance checks aligned with National Green Tribunal standards.
BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar stated that the SCADA centre marks a transformative step in managing Bengaluru’s water and wastewater infrastructure, combining large-scale operations with advanced technology.
