Anthropic has acquired stealth biotech startup Coefficient Bio in a deal valued at approximately $400 million, marking a significant expansion into the healthcare and life sciences sector.

The acquisition highlights Anthropic’s growing focus on applying artificial intelligence to biological research and drug discovery, moving beyond general-purpose AI systems into specialised scientific domains.

Founded less than a year ago by former researchers from Genentech, Coefficient Bio was developing AI models to accelerate biological research, including areas such as protein modelling, simulation, and drug target identification.
