Anthropic has introduced a major upgrade to its AI assistant Claude, enabling it to control a user’s computer and complete tasks independently, marking a significant leap toward fully agentic AI systems.
With this new capability, Claude can interact with a computer much like a human user—moving the cursor, clicking through interfaces, opening applications, browsing the web, and filling out forms. This eliminates the need for traditional integrations such as APIs or plugins, as the AI directly operates the device interface.

The feature allows users to assign tasks remotely, meaning Claude can execute workflows even when the user is away from their system. For instance, it can research information, manage documents, run software tools, or complete repetitive office tasks autonomously.
Currently available as a research preview for paid users, the functionality works primarily on macOS devices through the Claude desktop app, often paired with a mobile interface for remote task control.
This development builds on earlier “computer use” capabilities and signals a broader shift toward AI agents that can perform real-world actions, not just generate responses. As competition intensifies among AI companies, such advancements highlight the move from conversational AI to task-oriented digital assistants capable of end-to-end execution.
However, the feature still has limitations, including slower execution for complex tasks and the need for explicit user permissions—raising important considerations around security, control, and reliability.
