Foxconn has injected nearly $1.48 billion (approx. ₹12,800 crore) into its Indian operations within just five days. The investment was routed through Foxconn’s Singapore-based subsidiary into Yuzhan Technology (India) Pvt Ltd, its Tamil Nadu-based unit.

According to official filings, Foxconn Singapore acquired 9,999 equity shares in Yuzhan at ₹10 each, with a significant premium that brought the total deal value to $1.489 billion. This capital infusion marks a strategic shift as Apple seeks to rebalance its global manufacturing base amid geopolitical shifts and ongoing trade tensions.

Apple’s pivot towards India is gaining momentum. CEO Tim Cook recently stated that a significant portion of iPhones sold in the US during the June quarter would be manufactured in India. Currently, India accounts for roughly 15% of Apple’s global iPhone output—a figure that is expected to climb sharply.

Foxconn’s India revenues have more than doubled in FY25, crossing the $20 billion (₹1.7 lakh crore) mark, largely due to the ramp-up in iPhone production. Industry data from S&P Global notes that iPhone sales in the US reached 75.9 million units in 2024, while India alone exported 3.1 million iPhones in March, highlighting India’s growing role in Apple’s supply chain.

The momentum is mirrored in national export figures. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently reported record mobile phone exports of ₹2 lakh crore in FY25, with Apple contributing a substantial ₹1.5 lakh crore through iPhone shipments. Apple is projected to manufacture around 60 million iPhones in India during the current fiscal year.

Foxconn’s large-scale investment signals a firm commitment to India as a critical manufacturing hub and a cornerstone of Apple’s global production strategy. The move not only reflects India’s rising prominence in the global tech ecosystem but also reinforces the success of the government’s electronics manufacturing push.
