YouTube has announced the appointment of Gunjan Soni as the new country Managing Director for India. She steps into the role following the departure of Ishan Chatterjee, who exited the company in 2024 to join JioCinema as Chief Revenue Officer.

Bringing more than two decades of leadership expertise across business, technology, marketing, and e-commerce, Gunjan joins YouTube after a successful six-year tenure as Group CEO at ZALORA in Singapore. Her career journey also includes leadership roles as Executive Vice President at Star India, Chief Marketing Officer at Myntra, and Partner at McKinsey & Company specialising in consumer and marketing strategies.

Welcoming her to the team, Gautam Anand, Vice President of YouTube APAC, said that her leadership reflects the company’s heightened commitment to empowering creators, strengthening user connections, and driving digital progress across India.

Operating from Mumbai, Soni is set to spearhead YouTube’s growth strategies in one of its most crucial markets worldwide. She has emphasised her dedication to supporting India’s creator ecosystem and enhancing YouTube’s impact in fostering community connections. Her strategic priorities include expanding video commerce, growing Shorts, and deepening engagement across diverse user groups.

In a LinkedIn post, she shared her excitement about the new role, expressing a strong focus on innovation and helping creators discover new storytelling possibilities. She highlighted opportunities in evolving creator-audience interactions, video shopping, Shorts, Connected TV, and exploring creative content formats that resonate intuitively with audiences.

Gunjan Soni holds a Computer Science degree from Barkatullah University and an MBA in Finance from XLRI Jamshedpur. She also serves on the board of CBRE Group, a Fortune 500 global real estate company.
