OpenAI is rolling out a series of major updates to ChatGPT, enhancing search capabilities, introducing a shopping experience, improving citations, and launching WhatsApp integration. These new features are being made available to Plus, Pro, Free, and even logged-out users across all supported regions, with the full rollout expected to complete within a few days.

According to OpenAI, search has quickly become one of ChatGPT’s most popular tools, generating over one billion web searches in the past week alone. To build on this momentum, OpenAI is introducing an experimental shopping feature within ChatGPT. Users can now discover, compare, and purchase products directly through the platform. The updated shopping experience offers richer product listings, including prices, user reviews, and direct links for purchase. OpenAI emphasized that product recommendations are made independently and are not paid advertisements.

Recent reports also indicated that OpenAI plans to enhance the shopping feature with Shopify integration, allowing for an even broader range of products and e-commerce options.

In another big move, OpenAI has made ChatGPT’s search capabilities available via WhatsApp. Users can send messages to 1-800-ChatGPT (+1-800-242-8478) to receive real-time information, including live sports scores, from anywhere ChatGPT is accessible.

Citations within ChatGPT have also been upgraded. Responses now support multiple sources, helping users cross-verify information more easily. A new ‘highlight’ user interface shows exactly which parts of an answer each citation supports, improving transparency.

Additionally, OpenAI has introduced trending searches and autocomplete suggestions to make searching even faster and more intuitive within ChatGPT.
