In a strategic move to strengthen its semiconductor ambitions, Tata Electronics has appointed industry veteran KC Ang as President and Head of its foundry division—Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing. Ang will report directly to Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD of Tata Electronics.
Tasked with overseeing semiconductor foundry operations and forging key global alliances, Ang’s leadership comes at a crucial time as the company accelerates its chip production roadmap. He will also focus on enhancing AI-driven capabilities within the foundry ecosystem, further modernising Tata’s manufacturing framework.

Ang brings over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor space, having held leadership roles across major markets including Malaysia, Germany, the United States, and China. Prior to this appointment, he served as President of Asia and Chairman of China at GlobalFoundries, where he was instrumental in fab operations and international technology transfers.

Expressing his enthusiasm for joining Tata Electronics, Ang highlighted India’s expanding semiconductor landscape, stating, “The Indian semiconductor sector is on the cusp of a global breakthrough. I am eager to contribute my global experience to position Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing as a world-class chip producer.”
Welcoming Ang, Thakur remarked, “KC Ang’s deep industry insights and global expertise make him a valuable addition to our leadership team. His appointment reinforces our commitment to developing a robust and competitive semiconductor ecosystem in India, starting with our Dholera Fab initiative.”

Tata Electronics has already made early strides in chip packaging through its R&D facility in Bengaluru. The company began limited-scale exports of packaged semiconductor chips last year, catering to clients across Japan, the United States, and Europe.
In a parallel development under the Indian Semiconductor Mission, Mumbai-based RRP Electronics also commenced exports of packaged semiconductor components. Their first overseas shipment, valued at ₹6.51 crore, focused on ASIC-based technologies and was delivered to a European client—signaling India’s growing footprint in the global chip supply chain.
These advancements align with the country’s broader vision to establish a self-reliant and competitive semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
