Apple Moves Kim Vorrath to Lead its AI Division By Elets News Network - 27 January 2025

Apple AI Division

Apple has made a leadership change to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) and Siri development. Kim Vorrath, an Apple executive who has been there for 36 years, has moved to the AI and machine learning division. According to reports, Vorrath, who previously led the software rollout for Vision Pro, will now report directly to John Giannandrea, Apple’s AI chief.

While competitors like OpenAI and Google have launched tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, Apple has faced delays in rolling out similar innovations. Last year’s WWDC announcements about AI and Apple Intelligence have yet to make a significant market impact.

Apple is working on upgrading Siri to understand the on-screen context and execute more complex actions, but this update is expected with iOS 18.4. Meanwhile, a feature offering AI-powered news summaries will pause temporarily with iOS 18.3, following criticism over inaccuracies.

Kim Vorrath, who was part of the original iPhone software team, is expected to bring discipline and structure to Apple’s AI projects. Analysts see her appointment as a signal that Apple is prioritising AI development, even over its flagship products like the Vision Pro headset.

An internal memo from Giannandrea, according to reports, outlines plans for the AI team to improve Siri’s infrastructure and develop new AI models by 2025.
