Google and the Telangana government have entered into an agreement to establish a Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in Hyderabad. This will be the second in the Asia Pacific region, following Tokyo, and the fifth globally, joining Dublin, Munich, and Malaga.
A GSEC develops advanced security and online security products. The Hyderabad centre will focus on AI-based security solutions and research, creating a platform to support cybersecurity professionals and researchers.

Plans for the GSEC were announced at the Google of India 2024 Conclave on October 3rd, which led to fierce competition between several states for the investment. The Telangana government ensured that the facility was established in Hyderabad. The state’s Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, visited Google’s headquarters in the USA to take up the matter.

Hyderabad already has Google’s largest workforce, and will soon be hosting its largest office in the world, outside of its headquarters. “Google’s GSEC in Hyderabad will become a hub for safety engineering, including cyber and digital security. Hyderabad, with this partnership, can become a global centre and cater to the needs of the world in security,” said Royal Hansen, Vice President, Engineering, Google – Privacy, Safety, Security, on Wednesday during a discussion with CM Reddy.
