Veterans from the armed forces are joining the corporate sector, especially Global Capability Centres (GCCs), making themselves invaluable to companies due to the addition of their discipline, strategic acumen, and resilience.

CEO of Taggd, Devashish Sharma informed that veteran employment in GCCs has surged from 10,000 a decade ago to 24,000 in the 2023-24 financial year.


Career transition and growth

Madan Kumar Subramanian, a former flight lieutenant in the Indian Air Force, completed his postgraduate management studies at IIM-Calcutta. He now serves as a director of software development at Fiserv, leading a team on peer-to-peer finance products.

Veteran recruitment programs

Several companies have come up with veteran recruitment programs, the prime example being Amazon, which collaborated with several military placement agencies and launched a veterans’ program in 2019.

Companies like Wells Fargo, AT&T, Allstate India, Carelon Global Solutions, and Deutsche Bank, are some well-known companies that hire veterans.

Educational support

Institutions like IIM Ahmedabad and ISB are catering to the educational needs of veterans. IIM Ahmedabad is offering a six-month armed forces program due to high demand, while ISB has 5% of its students coming from the armed forces. ISB also provides a 50% tuition fee waiver for veterans through a scholarship that was launched in collaboration with the defence ministry.
