Uber today unveiled an expanded version of its She++ initiative, underlining its commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the tech industry. The programme now extends early-career opportunities to not only women but also people with disabilities and other underrepresented groups, allowing them to intern with Uber’s engineering teams and gain valuable industry experience and insights.
Originally focused on encouraging female participation in engineering, the She++ initiative has now broadened its scope to include a wider range of diversity. This year, the programme attracted over 4000 applications from prestigious engineering institutions across India, demonstrating a growing interest in workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion. The initiative was celebrated at an event on 7 March at Uber’s Bangalore Campus, offering students a chance to interact with Uber leaders and HR professionals.

Dawn Carter, Director of Global Talent Acquisition at Uber, stated, “Uber is dedicated to removing obstacles and creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Expanding She++ to include people with disabilities and other groups marks a significant step towards our goal of fostering a more inclusive society. As Uber continues to focus on diversity and inclusion, She++ is pivotal in our efforts to build a more equitable future for all. Initiatives like She++ not only influence the direction of technology but also seek to drive positive change in society.”

The She++ initiative serves as a platform for early-career talent to learn from industry experts, develop crucial skills, and grow their professional networks. The event was a tremendous success, featuring engaging activities such as fireside chats with industry leaders, speed mentoring, networking lunches, and opportunities to contribute to Uber’s innovative projects.
Last year, the initiative saw over 2000 student participants from leading engineering colleges in India, underscoring an increasing demand for inclusivity in the workforce.
