Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has officially announced Mundkur S Kamath’s elevation to Managing Director (MD), following the nod from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Since 2022, Kamath, who has served as the Executive Director, has stepped into his new role effective 28th February 2024, following the departure of the former MD, Sanjay Varma. He is set to continue in this capacity until his retirement on 30th November 2027, subject to further directives.

Kamath’s journey with MRPL began in 1992, and over the years, he has significantly contributed through various leadership positions. He is an alumnus of MIT Manipal, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, complemented by a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from TA Pai Management Institute Manipal.

In his latest stint as Executive Director (Refinery), Kamath has been instrumental in enhancing operational workflows, maintenance, technical services, and production planning. His leadership ethos revolves around operational excellence, energy efficiency, reliability, and digital transformation. Kamath’s extensive experience encompasses a broad spectrum of the petroleum sector, including project development, process engineering, and comprehensive operational management. His proactive approach in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies has significantly propelled MRPL towards technological innovation. Kamath’s strategic direction and commitment to technological advancement are pivotal in driving MRPL’s growth and operational efficiencies.
