Wipro GE Healthcare has announced the opening of a new manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, India, under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme of the Indian government. Wipro GE Medical Device Production Factory (MDM) is a new plant that is associated with the National Agenda of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat‘ and will increase local medical device manufacturing in India. The Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) has welcomed the first association of its Partner in Progress for Electronics, System, Design, and Manufacturing (ESDM) Program through the inauguration of Wipro GE Healthcare’s medical devices manufacturing plant, which is at the forefront of enabling a global ESDM ecosystem in Karnataka. The facility is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wipro GE Healthcare and was built from the ground up. The business has made a significant investment.

The MDM plant, which spans 35,000 square feet, is geared up to produce CT machines, cathlab equipment, ultrasound scanners, patient monitoring systems, ECG machines, and ventilators 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It has automated testers for evaluating the functioning of medical gadgets. The shopfloor at this plant now employs 35 people, but that number is likely to rise to 100 in the next two to three years.

Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro GE Healthcare and Chairman, Wipro Enterprises “India is on an accelerated growth path in gaining global prominence for medical devices manufacturing. Wipro GE Healthcare’s new factory, with support from the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, will aid the health ecosystem in India to realize its true potential in addressing local and global challenges for healthcare providers.”
