Shell has appointed Vijay kannan as new IT general manager, CIO, Global Lubricants, Sectors and Decarbonisation and B2B Customer at British-Dutch multinational oil and gas company Shell. Earlier Vijay was IT General Manager (CIO) for Shell’s Global Commercial businesses based out of London and will now move back to India to take up the new role.

Vijay will be responsible for shaping and delivering IT and digital strategy for the businesses , and will be working on a “customer back” approach to understanding and fulfilling the needs of its customers.


He will be leading the team spread across Houston, London, The Hague, Shanghai, and Bengaluru. He will be building a cohesive portfolio of business capabilities that bring together processes, data, and IT/digital tools that will continue to serve the customers of Shell Lubricants.

From solutions that bring transparency to carbon footprint, optimizing value chains to increase energy efficiency and enabling collaborations that bring collective action, Technology and Digital would have a key role in the future decarbonization pathways across sectors” Vijay Kannan, IT GM – Shell exclaimed.

Earlier in his career, has played multiple regional and global roles in IT during his time with Asian Paints and Unilever. Vijay has over 18 years of experience in the industry including sectors like Chemicals/Paints, FMCG, and Energy sectors. He has completed 3 years in the company, joined shell in 2018.

Before joining Shell, he was working with Unilever for 14 years, most recently as CIO – Hindustan Unilever Ltd and Unilever South Asia.
