OpenAI has made GPT-5.5 Instant the new default model in ChatGPT, replacing GPT-5.3 Instant. The update is being rolled out to all logged-in users.

The company stated that GPT-5.5 Instant is designed to deliver more accurate and concise responses. It includes improvements in areas such as factual accuracy, image analysis, STEM-related queries, and web search usage.

OpenAI said GPT-5.5 Instant produces fewer hallucinated claims compared to GPT-5.3 Instant. It also reduces inaccurate responses in conversations flagged for factual errors.

The model includes expanded personalisation features. It can draw context from past chats, files, and connected services to generate responses.

OpenAI is also introducing a feature that allows users to view, edit, or remove saved memories used by the system.

The company stated that GPT-5.5 Instant will also be available through the API, while GPT-5.3 Instant will remain accessible for paid users for a limited period.
