OpenAI has introduced GPT-4.5, its most advanced AI model to date, currently available as a research preview for ChatGPT Pro users and developers worldwide.

The launch of GPT-4.5 comes amidst increasing competition in the AI space, with emerging models like DeepSeek-R1 pushing companies like OpenAI to accelerate innovation.

In a post on social media platform X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described GPT-4.5 as the first AI model that truly feels like conversing with a “thoughtful person.” He shared his astonishment at receiving genuinely insightful advice from the AI, emphasising its enhanced conversational depth.

Despite its capabilities, Altman noted that GPT-4.5 is a “giant, expensive” model and does not aim to dominate benchmarks. Instead, it offers a different kind of intelligence with a level of “magic” that he hasn’t felt before.

Key Advancements in GPT-4.5

According to OpenAI, early testing highlights several improvements:

• More Natural and Intuitive Responses – The model is better at understanding user intent and engaging in nuanced conversations.
• Expanded Knowledge Base – GPT-4.5 offers a broader and more accurate grasp of information.
• Fewer Hallucinations – It is designed to reduce instances of generating incorrect or nonsensical information.
• Enhanced Emotional Intelligence – Improved ability to understand and respond to emotions makes it ideal for writing, problem-solving, and programming tasks.

Unlike frontier AI models, GPT-4.5 does not introduce completely new capabilities but instead focuses on refining computational efficiency and user interactions. OpenAI developed it using a combination of new supervision techniques, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning from human feedback, ensuring a more reliable and context-aware AI.

GPT-4.5 is currently accessible to ChatGPT Pro users and developers, with plans to extend availability to Plus and Team users in the coming week, followed by Enterprise and Education customers. Additionally, the model has been integrated into Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry platform, enabling broader enterprise adoption.

This latest release signifies OpenAI’s continued push to enhance AI capabilities, making digital interactions more insightful, intuitive, and human-like.
