Karan Shroff, the ex-Chief Marketing Officer and Partner at the edtech behemoth Unacademy, has recently unveiled his latest enterprise, LightFury Games, through a LinkedIn announcement. This new foray marks a significant pivot into the gaming realm, with the studio committed to crafting top-notch AAA titles in India. Shroff, in collaboration with Anurag Banerjee, a distinguished figure in game development known for his work on acclaimed titles such as Assassin’s Creed and Batman: Arkham Asylum, aims to bring groundbreaking AAA games to the global stage from India. Banerjee, bringing over two decades of experience to the table, will occupy the roles of co-founder and Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO) at LightFury Games. The team also includes Tina Balachandran, previously of Unacademy, who will oversee talent and culture.

LightFury Games aspires to initially roll out mobile games before expanding its reach to console platforms. Shroff, with a vast background in brand marketing and event management, including a significant stint at Xiaomi India, is poised to steer the company towards innovative heights in the gaming industry. The company’s ambition is underscored by the fact that, despite India’s burgeoning gaming scene, it lacks homegrown AAA titles, a gap LightFury Games aims to fill. This move comes at a time when the Indian gaming market is witnessing rapid growth, with forecasts projecting substantial revenue increases in the coming years.
