The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Dell Technologies, and Equinix have joined together to promote innovation and green practices. Working together, they will redesign the creation, deployment, and maintenance of digital infrastructure, prioritising the area’s sustainable digital solutions and environmentally friendly technology practices.
As part of this collaboration, IMDA, Dell, and Equinix will offer advice and suggestions on how to implement contemporary digital infrastructure sustainably and how to best integrate and utilize hardware and software interfaces. A thorough approach to measure, quantify, and audit the quantifiable sustainability improvement in the form of reduced energy use and carbon emissions will be developed as a result of this relationship.
“Greening the ICT sector is an important priority for IMDA,” said Ong Chen Hui, Assistant Chief Executive of the BizTech Group of the IMDA. Singapore introduced the first global guideline for improving the energy efficiency of data centers in tropical regions earlier this year. In order to jointly develop best practices for green software and green digital solutions, the IMDA is also the first nation to join the European Green Digital Coalition and the Green Software Foundation.
Sustainability is at the core of all we do at Dell Technologies, according to Andy Sim, vice president and managing director for Singapore. Our goal is to do what is best for our client and the environment both now and in the future. This includes utilizing the newest cooling technology and lowering total data center costs. Given Singapore’s ambitions to improve its connectivity and processing capacity to support future technologies like generative artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring the sustainable operation of IT infrastructures is of the utmost importance.
“Interconnected digital infrastructure and ecosystems have a fundamental role to play in the continued growth of Singapore’s digital economy,” said Yee May Leong, Managing Director for South Asia at Equinix. Another significant step in advancing Singapore’s green agenda as well as enterprises’ sustainable digital transformation journey and sustainability goals is the collaboration with IMDA and Dell to create green digital infrastructure.
In order to achieve its objective of becoming a hub for digital sustainability, Singapore has already made tremendous progress. For example, earlier this year, it introduced one of the first guidelines in the world for maximizing energy efficiency for data centers in tropical climates. With the help of this relationship, green ICT practices may be promoted and applications for sustainable digital technology can be developed.
