Hyundai Motor Group announced an 18 trillion won ($13 billion) investment in applying modern software to all of its vehicles and providing consumers with regular software updates.

Hyundai announced in a statement that it has opted to spend heavily on software in order to introduce the majority of its new vehicles as “Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV)” in global markets beginning in 2025.

According to Yonhap news agency, Hyundai Motor Group plans to periodically update the performance and functionality of all vehicles sold globally beginning in 2025 as it strives to become a future mobility solutions provider.

“Customers must currently attend after-sales service centers to update the software packages in their automobiles. However, wireless upgrading services for SDVs will be available, and their residual value will remain high “According to a Hyundai official.

In a related endeavour, the official stated that Hyundai Motor Group will provide wireless software updates to all vehicles set to be released in 2023, including combustion engine and all-electric models.

According to the announcement, Hyundai will spend some of the anticipated expenditures on developing autonomous driving technologies, boosting connectivity services, and creating a large data center.

The business anticipates that the number of vehicles registered for Hyundai’s connected car services will increase to 20 million by 2025, up from an expected 10 million at the end of this year.

According to the statement, it would analyze gathered data from linked car services and use the data to give customized software services to its vehicle owners.
