Global supply chain standards organization GS1 announced on Monday the appointment of S Swaminathan as managing director of its India operations. Swaminathan, who was previously COO of GS1 India, will now lead the business and focus on leveraging new technologies and developing digital skills.

Swaminathan is an active member of the GS1 Global Advisory Council and various industry committees of IIC and FICCI. He was instrumental in the development of the FASTag data standardization and in the creation of the National Retail Industry Forum (NIFR), which includes a leading brand owner, online retailer / retailer.

His previous roles included Country Manager (Japan and Southeast Asia) at Newgen Software Technologies Ltd and Country Manager (South Asia) at PSC Inc, USA.
