Google Cloud has announced its intent to strengthen collaboration with the Indian government under the IndiaAI Mission. Bikram Singh Bedi, Vice President and Managing Director of Google Cloud India, highlighted the company’s focus on working closely with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to support the country’s digital and AI infrastructure.

Speaking at a closed-door media interaction, Bedi emphasized that establishing the Delhi cloud region was a foundational step aimed at addressing public sector requirements. “Our next big focus is the AI mission. We’re aligning closely with the government to support this initiative,” he said.

Bedi noted that the public sector, especially organizations associated with the central government, remains a top priority for Google Cloud. He also revealed that the Gemini 1.5 Flash AI model is currently operational within India, with plans to roll out updated versions locally as part of annual refresh cycles.

“India is one of the fastest-growing markets globally,” Bedi remarked. “We’re actively scaling up not just our infrastructure but also our technology capabilities to ensure Indian users have access to the most advanced solutions available.”

Google Cloud’s footprint in India includes data centres in Delhi and Mumbai, with future investments being explored in Navi Mumbai. The tech giant has also partnered with telecom players like Airtel to develop sovereign cloud offerings tailored for Indian enterprises and government bodies.

The company is increasingly integrating with key national digital initiatives. As outlined on the IndiaAI Mission portal, edge computing is playing a pivotal role in enhancing AI workloads by reducing latency and bandwidth needs. Industry leaders like Google Cloud, AWS, and Microsoft Azure are expanding their data infrastructure to meet these evolving demands.

According to research by investment firm CBRE, India’s data centre investments are expected to surpass $100 billion by 2027. Bedi added that Google Cloud’s comprehensive approach—managing the full AI stack including infrastructure, foundational models, AI agents, and its Vertex AI platform—enables it to deliver cost-effective and scalable AI solutions tailored for India’s unique needs.
