Adidas, the German sports footwear and apparel giant, has secured a lease for its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India. The 45,000 sq ft space is located in Chennai and marks the company’s first such centre in Asia outside China.

The company is establishing the GCC in Olympia Pinnacle on Old Mahabalipuram Road, the largest IT corridor in the northern suburbs of Chennai, with a 700-seater space. The deal, currently being registered, starts at a monthly rent of ₹65 per sq. ft.

Adidas confirmed the lease in an email but did not provide further details. “We can confirm that we have recently rented a new office space in Chennai, India,” the corporate communications team stated.

Akhil Kapoor, the Vice President of GBS Global Procurement and Head of GBS in India, will lead the centre. Kapoor took to his LinkedIn account and revealed the relocation of the GCC to the Smarworks office. He wrote, “This move signifies a significant upgrade in infrastructure, facilities, and accessibility, reinforcing our position as the global GBS powerhouse at Adidas.”

Earlier this year, reports surfaced about Adidas’ plans to establish its first GCC in India to handle functions such as planning and analysis, invoice-to-cash, record-to-report, and source-to-pay. The number of GCCs in India is steadily increasing. According to CBRE India, there were approximately 2,740 GCCs in India as of FY23.
