BharatGen has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Bombay and C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) to accelerate the development of sovereign AI infrastructure tailored to India’s linguistic diversity.

The collaboration focuses on strengthening foundational AI research and development, particularly in building systems that can effectively understand and operate across India’s vast range of languages, including low-resource and tribal languages.

Under the agreement, the three institutions will work across multiple key areas, including:

  • Development of distributed AI infrastructure for large-scale model training
  • Creation of multimodal AI models spanning text, speech, and vision
  • Building multilingual datasets and evaluation frameworks
  • Designing AI solutions for Indic and underrepresented languages

The MoU was signed on March 17, coinciding with C-DAC’s Foundation Day, in the presence of India’s Principal Scientific Adviser—highlighting the national importance of the initiative.

This partnership builds on BharatGen’s broader mission to develop India’s first sovereign, multilingual and multimodal AI ecosystem, designed to reflect the country’s cultural and linguistic complexity while reducing dependence on foreign AI models.

By bringing together leading research institutions, the initiative aims to create inclusive, India-centric AI systems that can power applications in governance, education, healthcare, and beyond—ensuring that AI technologies are accessible and relevant to every segment of society.
