Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BACL) has started the construction of its 2 million sq ft business park, which aims to place Bengaluru as a global hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The initiative is a part of Bengaluru’s new GCC policy (2024-2029), which has plans to generate 3.5 lakh jobs and contribute $50 billion to the state’s economy. BACL is a subsidiary of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL).

According to BIAL’s statement, the Bengaluru Airport City is located on the broader campus of Kempegowda International Airport. It is being developed as a mixed-use destination that will host business parks, an education and health district, research and development hubs, as well as entertainment and hospitality options.

“As a future entertainment and hospitality hub, plans include India’s first Concert Arena within an airport ecosystem and a Convention & Exhibition Centre. The hospitality sector is growing with 5,200 hotel rooms planned within Airport City, including the already operational Taj Bangalore and the under-construction 775 rooms Combo Hotel (Vivanta & Ginger),” the statement added.

The business park will have a biophilic design incorporating lush gardens, landscaped balconies, and green spaces, creating a balance between nature and productivity to improve the business community’s well-being. Spanning 17.7 acres, it will have four blocks of 0.5 million sq ft each, set inside an urban forest.

The campus holds IGBC’s Green Cities Platinum certification, which means it is designed to be energy-neutral and will completely rely on renewable energy sources. Its infrastructure includes rainwater harvesting systems for sustainable water management.
