Bharti Airtel, along with Nokia and MediaTek, achieved the highest uplink speed during recent trials, setting a new standard for 5G technology performance. The tests, carried out at Airtel’s tech lab, showed as much as 300 Mbps uplink as the best ever done on a 5G network.

This feat was achieved using two different types of spectrum – the Time Division Duplex (TDD) and Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) – on the 3.5 GHz and 2.1 GHz bands respectively. For this trial, Airtel used Nokia’s latest 5G AirScale equipment, and MediaTek provided the Dimensity 5G platform on the user devices.

Bharti Airtel informed that the trials were specifically designed to maximize uplink performance by aggregating the 3.5 GHz (n78) and 2.1 GHz (n1) frequency bands. Known as Uplink Tx (Transmission) switching, this innovation allows improved uplink performance by dynamically switching uplink transmission on two carriers within both TDD and FDD spectrum.

With this breakthrough, 5G has become more powerful in everyday use, allowing faster and seamless experiences in video calls, live streaming, and uploading big files.

Airtel’s Chief Technology Officer, Randeep Sekhon, said, “This trial not only stands testament to our philosophy of enhancing our state-of-the-art network infrastructure and delivering an unmatched 5G user experience but will also greatly enhance our network’s uplink performance, resulting in faster data speeds and improved connectivity.”
