Captain Klaus Goersch has been appointed as the new Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of Air India.

As a pilot with a license to operate the B777 and 787, Capt. Klaus will take charge of critical divisions within Air India, such as Flight Operations, Engineering, Ground Operations, Integrated Operations Control (IOCC), and Cabin Crew. He will take over the duties of Captain RS Sandhu, who recently retired from the expanded role of Chief of Operations and will now serve on the advisory board of the group for four airlines. He will be based at the headquarters in Gurugram, India, and will be responsible for overseeing the Airbus A350 operating procedures as well as creating a new training academy.

Captain Klaus was the CEO of KSA Airline NEOM before assuming this current position. In the past, he has held executive positions with British Airways and Air Canada as COO and EVP.

Campbell Wilson, the airline’s CEO and Managing Director, welcomed Capt. Klaus to the leadership group, saying, “We are happy to have Klaus join the Air India family.” His extensive expertise and experience from working at some of the world’s top airlines are invaluable to Air India’s ongoing transformation. At Air India, we’re still dedicated to developing the highest calibre of leadership while investing in all the tools necessary to propel the airline to the forefront of international aviation.

With the addition of Capt. Manish Uppal as Senior VP of Flight Operations, Capt. Henry Donohoe as Senior VP of Safety, Security, and Quality, supervising Emergency Response, Pankaj Handa as Ground Operations Head, Choorah Singh as Divisional VP of Integrated Operations Control, JuLi Ng as Divisional VP of Cabin Crew, and Sisira Kanta Dash as Senior VP of Engineering, the airline has further strengthened its senior management team.

In addition, Rajesh Dogra assumes Sandeep Verma’s responsibilities as Chief Client Experience Officer and Global Head of Inflight Product and Service Design, with the aim of supervising all client interfaces.

“These changes have been made with a view to managing succession, streamlining the organization, optimizing talent from within the Tata airline group, and positioning it strongly for future growth and success,” CEO and MD Wilson said in announcing the leadership changes.
