AI and Blockchain to enhance India’s e-Courts under Phase III with ₹7,210 crore investment By Elets News Network - 07 February 2025

The Government of India is leveraging cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain to enhance efficiency, security, and accessibility in the judiciary through the e-Courts project. AI is utilised for intelligent scheduling, predictive analytics, administrative improvements, Natural Language Processing (NLP), automated filing, case information management, chatbot-assisted communication with litigants, and translation services.

To ensure secure connectivity and data protection, a Sub-Committee comprising six High Court judges, supported by domain experts, has been formed under the eCommittee of the Supreme Court of India. The committee is tasked with critically assessing and strengthening the digital infrastructure, network, and service delivery mechanisms of the e-Courts project to uphold citizens’ privacy rights.

The Government has allocated ₹7,210 crore for the implementation of e-Courts Phase III, which includes 24 project components. Among these, Future Technological Advancements, such as AI and Blockchain, have been earmarked a budget of ₹53.57 crore for the High Courts across India, with implementation planned until 2027.

This update was shared by the Minister of State for Law and Justice & Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
