Palo Alto Networks to Acquire Portkey to Boost AI Security  By cioNetworks - 01 May 2026

Palo Alto Networks

Palo Alto Networks has announced its plan to acquire Portkey, strengthening its push to secure the rapidly expanding use of autonomous AI agents in enterprise environments.

Portkey, which already processes trillions of tokens each month, will become the AI Gateway for Palo Alto Networks’ Prisma AIRS platform. It will function as a centralized control layer to monitor, route, and secure AI-driven transactions across organizations.

The move comes as enterprises transition from AI copilots to autonomous agents capable of making decisions and executing actions across systems—creating what the company describes as a growing AI security gap.

Lee Klarich, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Palo Alto Networks, noted that autonomous agents introduce a new, largely unmanaged attack surface. He emphasized that integrating Portkey into Prisma AIRS will enable organizations to deploy and govern AI agents with greater confidence.

Rohit Agarwal, CEO and Co-Founder of Portkey, highlighted that scaling AI in production requires balancing developer flexibility with strong security controls. He added that the acquisition will position the AI Gateway as a foundational layer for secure AI adoption in enterprises.
