Kamal Kishore Chatiwal was appointed as the new managing director of Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), the country’s largest CNG distribution company, on Thursday.
Before joining IGL, he was executive director and head of zonal marketing for GAIL in Jaipur, according to a company statement. GAIL, the state-owned gas utility, is an investor in IGL.

“Chatiwal, a chemical engineer from IIT Delhi, brings to IGL a rich domain experience of over 32 years in the oil and gas sector, particularly in project execution and commissioning of mega petrochemical projects, operation and maintenance of gas processing units, natural gas compressor station, and cross-country LPG pipeline,” according to the announcement.

He was involved in the execution and commissioning of GAIL’s first petrochemical plant at Pata in Uttar Pradesh, its first LPG recovery plant at Vijaipur, and the grass-root petrochemical complex at Lepetkata in Assam after joining the company in 1990. He succeeds Sanjay Kumar, who has been promoted to Director (Marketing) at GAIL (India) Ltd.
IGL is a joint venture between GAIL and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), with the Delhi government owning 5%. IGL sells compressed natural gas (CNG) to over 1.6 million vehicles via a network of 782 CNG stations. It also distributes piped cooking gas to over two million households in the nation’s capital and neighbouring cities.
