Lenovo Expands AI Footprint in India with New Server Manufacturing, R&D Facility By Elets News Network - 17 September 2024

Lenovo has started manufacturing AI servers at its Puducherry facility and inaugurated a new research and development (R&D) lab in Bengaluru. While the facility will produce enterprise AI and GPU servers, the R&D lab will develop and test advanced server technologies, including hardware, firmware, and software.

The Puducherry plant plans to manufacture 50,000 AI servers and 2,400 high-end GPU units annually, with more than 60 per cent slated for export across the Asia-Pacific region. The R&D lab will mainstream server designs and other tech initiatives to improve the company’s research capabilities worldwide.

Shailendra Katyal, Managing Director of Lenovo India, said, “Our investment in AI server manufacturing and R&D in India is long-term. This new lab shows our dedication to making cutting-edge technologies ‘in India for the world.’”

Amit Luthra, Managing Director of Lenovo ISG India, said these investments will help deliver premier AI infrastructure. This initiative is part of Lenovo’s goal to make India the central hub for technology innovation and production, he added. It will lead to the creation of more than 1,000 skilled technical jobs.
