India is witnessing a significant rise in women leaders taking top executive roles in Global Capability Centers (GCCs). Global organisations are increasingly appointing women to helm their India-based GCCs, with nearly two dozen women leading in these critical positions. Among them are Lalitha Indrakanti, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover Technology & Business Services India, and Srisha V. Yogisanti, CEO & MD of Lloyds Technology Centre, India.
These accomplished women are not just key decision-makers but are also driving innovation and fostering inclusive cultures across their organizations. Their leadership styles emphasize collaboration and resilience, essential for navigating today’s complex business environments. Lalitha Indrakanti, who made history as the first woman CEO of JLR Technology & Business Services India, expressed that her role comes with immense responsibility and pride. Similarly, Srisha Yogisanti oversees a large tech team and is focused on supporting innovation within the Lloyds Technology Centre.

The new generation of female leaders at India’s GCCs are transforming their industries by creating environments that encourage diversity and gender equity. Serena Nallasivan, MD of Metro Business Solution Centre (BSC), reflects on her journey and the implicit biases she had to overcome. Early in her career, Nallasivan recalls comments that questioned her credibility because of her gender and age. Yet, she persisted, breaking stereotypes and proving that gender should never be a barrier to leadership.

Despite challenges such as gender bias in the workplace, these leaders have risen above stereotypes. Nallasivan’s story highlights her resilience, noting that even while pregnant, she represented her company at a major conference and was met with discriminatory remarks at recruitment fairs. Overcoming such obstacles has been a common theme in the journeys of these women, as they’ve moved forward to lead and establish high-performing teams.

Experts note that the trend of women in leadership roles within GCCs has been growing steadily in recent years. Karthik Padmanabhan, a partner at Zinnov, highlights the increasing number of women stepping into pivotal roles. He observes that organizations are now making a more concerted effort to build inclusive, gender-diverse teams, a shift that has become particularly evident in companies like Jaguar Land Rover, Siemens Healthineers, HSBC, and Metro Business Solutions.
In addition, companies are actively encouraging and preparing women for leadership positions in technology, finance, and other fields. Rahmumar Ramamoorthy, partner at Catalincs, stresses the importance of supporting women as they take on leadership roles in technology, research and development, and finance, noting that more needs to be done to build women-centric leadership pipelines in these traditionally male-dominated sectors.
