WhatsApp is rolling out a new update, currently in beta, which introduces chat filters to its home UI, allowing users to streamline their chat navigation. This update, version 2.23.14.17, is available to a select group of Android beta testers via the Google Play Store. The feature aims to simplify user interaction by categorising chats into three primary filters: all, unread, and group, making it easier for users to find specific conversations without scrolling through numerous chats.
The “all” filter presents every chat, while the “unread” filter shows only those messages not yet opened. The “group” filter, as implied, lists all group conversations. This filtering option is accessible at the bottom of the chat interface.

Additionally, this update highlights locked chats, a security feature introduced previously, that safeguards certain conversations with a pincode or biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition. Users can also easily access archived chats, status updates, and community features from this menu.

In a related development, WhatsApp has enhanced its security notifications. A recent version now displays an “end-to-end encrypted” banner below contact names, informing users about the platform’s encryption measures. An iOS update addressing a copy-paste glitch has also been released.
