The plant will produce eyewear, lenses, sunglasses, accessories, and other products. It will cater to the Indian market and exports to Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The facility is expected to create 2,100 jobs.
Lenskart Founder and CEO Peyush Bansal, in conversation with media houses, said the company will invest $200 million in the new plant. The facility will be ten times larger than its existing plant in Rajasthan.
The company’s local manufacturing supports its online business in India and its sales in Southeast Asia. It also ensures next-day delivery to eight Indian cities, up from five to six cities earlier. The new facility will support exports to Japan, Southeast Asia, and West Asia. Lenskart was founded in 2010. It currently has more than 2,500 retail stores in India, with plans to open 400 more stores.
