Set Alarms, Alerts and Reminders with ChatGPT’s New ‘Tasks’ Feature By Elets News Network - 15 January 2025

OpenAI has rolled out a new feature for ChatGPT called “Tasks,” which allows users to set reminders and alarms directly within the platform. The feature, currently in beta, is available to Plus, Pro, and Teams users. It aims to handle both simple and complex tasks, such as setting a wake-up alarm or scheduling reminders for important meetings.

Karina Nguyen, an AI researcher and engineer at OpenAI, announced the update in a post on X, describing Tasks as a way for ChatGPT to manage requests asynchronously. Tasks can assist with one-off reminders or recurring routines, making it more versatile than traditional reminder apps.

Unlike basic alarm apps found on most phones, Tasks can process detailed instructions. For example, instead of just setting a morning alarm, users can ask ChatGPT to set an alarm for 9:30 AM and include a motivational message to kickstart the day. This functionality extends beyond time-based alerts, allowing users to schedule reminders for recurring actions like drinking water at 6 AM or grocery shopping to reduce takeout expenses.

Tasks also supports alerts for ongoing updates. Users can request daily updates on tech news or track specific stock prices without needing separate applications. This integrated approach sets Tasks apart by combining reminder functionality with ChatGPT’s broader capabilities, removing the need to juggle multiple tools for different tasks.

Although Tasks introduces new possibilities, it is not yet available to users on ChatGPT’s free tier. OpenAI has not provided a specific timeline for when this feature will be accessible to all users.
