Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine known for its fast-growing user base, has introduced Perplexity Labs — a new productivity toolkit available exclusively to Pro plan subscribers. With a subscription priced at $20 per month, users can now access tools that generate detailed reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, interactive apps, and more.

Labs is now live on the web, iOS, and Android, with desktop support for Mac and Windows coming soon. According to the company, Labs is designed for more complex and time-intensive tasks, with AI spending 10 minutes or longer to produce high-quality outputs. It integrates advanced features such as live web search, code generation, image and chart creation, and document automation.

All files created through a Labs session — including visualizations, code, and documents — are automatically stored in a dedicated tab for easy review and download. Perplexity emphasizes that this feature enables users to produce a wide variety of deliverables for both work and personal projects.

This launch aligns with Perplexity’s broader strategy to evolve from a search tool into a full-scale AI productivity platform. The company is also previewing an AI-powered browser, Comet, and recently acquired Read.vc, a social media platform for professionals.

The timing of Labs’ release coincides with growing momentum in the AI agent space, as seen in the debut of a slide deck creation tool by Manus. Meanwhile, Perplexity continues to enhance its enterprise offerings, including features like internal knowledge search and team management tools.

Reports suggest that Perplexity is currently in talks to raise up to $1 billion in funding, potentially valuing the company at $18 billion — underscoring investor confidence in its expanding vision. While AI tools like Labs hold significant promise, their real-world effectiveness will ultimately shape user adoption and long-term impact.
